June 12, 2018 by CapitalistReview Leave a Comment

These days, there is a huge variety of credit cards available to Americans with good credit. Many offer generous rewards for everyday purchases. Today, we’ll look at two newer credit cards that you may not have heard of, and compare them. Keep reading for our Capital One Savor vs Uber Visa card comparison (consumers who are looking to rebuild their credit score should check out the Ollo Card).

Capital One Savor vs Uber Visa

These cards are offered by two separate banks (Barclays and Capital One), but in a lot of ways they are pretty similar – and both are among the best no annual fee credit cards available today.

Savor vs Uber Visa Similarities

  • Both have no annual fee
  • Both are intended for those with good to excellent credit
  • Both earn cash back rewards
  • Both have a tiered cashback earning structure (explained below)
  • Both offer no foreign transaction fees

While there are many similarities, there are also some key differences that are important to understand if you’re trying to decide between these two cards.

Capital One Savor Review

Capital One Savor

Sign up bonus: $150 after spending $500 in the first 3 months
Issuing bank: Capital One
Annual fee:
None
Intro APR: 0% for first 9 months (purchases + balance transfers)
Other perks: Auto rental collision damage waiver, extended warranty, 24hr travel assistance, travel accident insurance
Cashback rates:
3% on dining, 2% on groceries, 1% on all other purchases

The Capital One Savor card has a good signup bonus that beats out the Uber Visa ($150 vs $100). Ongoing rewards earning rates are solid. The points do not expire, and can be easily redeemed for cashback.

The perks of the Savor are great for a no annual fee card. Things like auto rental coverage and travel accident insurance are usually only included on high-end cards. This product is clearly marketed towards travelers and foodies – and it’s a solid option for both! We compared the Savor and Quicksilver, another popular card from Capital One – and we also compiled a list of the best Capital One credit cards.

Uber Visa Review

Uber Visa

Sign up bonus: $100 after spending $500 in the first 3 months
Issuing bank: Barclays
Annual fee:
None
Intro APR: No intro offer (standard APRs apply)
Other perks: $600 mobile phone insurance, $50 credit for subscriptions when you spend $5,000 in a year
Cashback rates:
4% on dining and bars, 3% on select travel, 2% on online purchases, 1% on all other purchases

The Uber Visa from Barclays is a really solid card all-around. The earning rates are some of the best out there, and definitely stand out in the no-annual-fee space. Plus, premium perks like cell phone insurance (when you pay your cellular bill with the card) and a $50 statement credit for subscription services (after spending $5,000 in a year) make this card competitive with more premium offerings.

Despite the perks, there’s no annual fee! And the $100 signup bonus is fairly good for a card with these benefits. We did a full Uber Visa review if you want to learn more about this card.

Capital One Savor vs Uber Visa: Which is Better?

In terms of ongoing rewards rates, the Uber Visa is a clear winner here. The 4/3/2/1% earning structure is very generous. A ton of expenses fall under dining/bars, travel and online purchases, so with the Uber card a large percentage of your expenses will earn 2% or more. The notable exception here is groceries, where the Savor’s 2% cashback beats out the Uber Visa’s 1%.

In terms of signup bonus and initial perks, the Capital One Savor is a clear winner. The Savor has a $150 signup bonus plus 0% APR for 9 months, while the Uber Visa signup bonus is $100 with no promo APR. Both cards have a very low minimum spending requirement of $500.

In terms of perks and benefits, it’s a bit of a toss-up. The Uber Visa may have the slight edge with the mobile phone insurance and $50 statement credit. On the other hand, the Savor offers generous travel benefits like limited auto rental collision coverage. The winner depends on your spending habits.

Uber Visa vs Savor: Bottom Line

In the end, I have to hand the title to the Uber Visa. The Savor comes in at a very close second.

The Uber Visa cashback rates are exceptional – particularly when you consider the $50 bonus for spending $5,000. If you spend exactly $5,000 on the card in a year, that essentially translates to an extra 1% cashback on all purchases – on top of the already generous bonus categories.

In the end, these are both fantastic cards, but I have to give the title to the Uber visa.

Do you have either of these cards? Let us know in the comments!
